Making Digitisation More Sustainable

EMSIS: Intelligent Energy Management for Server Systems

In Germany alone, there are approximately 2.4 million servers in operation. A significant portion of these run continuously, even though no applications are running at times. EMSIS is developing an intelligent energy management system that can automatically and safely shut down unused terminal server systems and reactivate them as needed.

Great Potential for Greater Energy Efficiency

Unused server systems result in avoidable energy consumption and operating costs. At the same time, there is currently a lack of commercially available, scalable solutions that reliably control automated power-on and power-off functions and ensure the secure operation of the IT infrastructure.

EMSIS is laying the groundwork for this: The project is developing a smart solution that takes technical, operational, and application-specific requirements into account and enables energy-efficient operation of terminal server systems.

Advancing Sustainable Digitisation

Through this project, the Borderstep Institute supports companies and data centers in using energy more efficiently and meeting increasingly stringent energy efficiency requirements. In this way, EMSIS helps make digitalization more sustainable and reduce the resource consumption of digital infrastructures.
