Empowering Start-ups to measure and improve their climate impact (Train4Impact)
Start-ups and companies that are oriented towards the common good play a decisive role in the development of innovative solutions to achieve sustainability goals. Calculations by the Borderstep Institute show that the GHG reduction potential of particularly impact-oriented start-ups in Germany alone is around 73 million tonnes of CO2e per year. That is more than 10 % of Germany’s annual greenhouse gas emissions.
Identify, measure and realise GHG reduction potential
This potential must be systematically identified and measured already in the early stages of the company. It should then be harnessed through targeted skill development of the start-up team during business development. However, companies and start-ups that focus on the common good often lack the necessary resources and skills to systematically measure and improve their impact. In particular, the quantification of climate protection potential and the integration of holistic impact management pose major challenges.
Develop skills and optimise climate impact
This is exactly where Train4Impact comes in: In workshops and consultations, we provide start-ups and companies working for the common good with the necessary tools and knowledge to make their climate impact measurable and continuously optimise it. We use innovative tools such as the GHG & Impact Estimator, which was specially developed for the needs of young, innovative start-ups. With this approach, we enable start-ups to assess the climate protection potential of their products and services.
In addition, we offer a hotline, online workshops and individual consultations to ensure flexible and target group-orientated support.
Strengthening innovation and driving decarbonisation forward
Our aim is to empower companies and start-ups that are geared towards the common good to not only better understand their climate impact, but also to demonstrably improve it. By disseminating impact expertise, we contribute to decarbonisation and strengthen the innovative power of these companies. Beyond the duration of the project, we create structures that have a long-term impact and help to realise the enormous climate protection potential of start-ups.
The Train4Impact project is funded by the European Union and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action via the European Social Fund Plus (ESF Plus) as part of the programme Nachhaltig Wirken – Förderung Gemeinwohlorientierter Unternehmen.
